No, it doesn’t. It just created hidden taxonomy terms to list your existing post objects under the set rules by you.
Technically, they are both the same. The plugin uses native WP Taxonomy Terms. The main difference is
products here are assigned to DxTags automatcailly while in default tags post-taxonomy relations are created manually.
Currently it is absolutely free and doesn’t have a PRO version.
