With Really Simple Featured Video you get a metabox at posts, pages, CPTs & Woo products edit screen sidebar, with a very similar interface as you’re used to with featured image.
You get a really simple settings page which has all the controls you need for managing featured videos throughout your site. Video Tools is where you manage those videos, upload many at once, and see views and plays. Explore it yourself for a better look or take a look at screenshots below.

- Video Studio – Auto generate featured videos from templates, right inside WordPress. Pick a template, change the text, colors, font and images (filled from the post or WooCommerce product), preview it and click Make video. The video is made in your browser and saved to your Media Library.
- Featured Video block – Add the block wherever you want a video: it shows the featured video of the entry it is in, or of any other post you pick. Works in templates and Query Loops, with player settings you can change per block.

Video Studio auto generates short featured videos from templates, without any outside service. Open it from the Featured Video box on any post, page or product, or from the Video Studio page (under Video Tools): pick the post type and the entry, then make its video.
- 7 templates: Text reveal, Image slideshow, Product card, Quote, News headline, Testimonial and Kinetic type
- Fills itself from the post or WooCommerce product: title, price, sale price, photos and category
- Live preview, then Make video. The video is made in your browser and saved as the post’s featured video with a poster image
- 16:9 in 720p or 1080p, or 1:1 square. The file is kept under your site’s upload limit
- The box tells you when the post changed after the video was made, so you can make it again
- In Video Tools > Manage Featured Videos, entries without a video get an Auto Generate Video button: pick a template and it makes the video in one step
Making a video needs Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a secure (HTTPS) connection. Safari can preview templates but can’t make the video yet. Keep the tab open while the video is being made.
👉️ Video Autoplay on Hover Support
RSFV supports autoplaying videos on hover, just enable the feature via Settings and the videos will start to autoplay. Autoplay videos when users hover on them not by default, creating a much better experience for the user as well as the site.

👉️ How to use the Featured Video block
Add the Featured Video block from the Media category in the block editor or the Site Editor. It is never added for you: nothing on your site changes until you place the block yourself.
- This entry shows the featured video of the post, page or product the block is placed in. Place it in a single template, a Query Loop, or the content of a post, and it follows the entry it is in.
- Another post shows the featured video of any post, page or product you pick. Search for a post that has a featured video and choose it.
- Player settings follow your global settings, and each one can be turned on or off for that block: controls, autoplay, loop, mute, picture in picture and download.
- Autoplay on hover follows the global setting and can be turned on or off per block.
- When there is no video the block can show nothing, or the featured image.
- Alignment, margin, border radius and shadow are available under the block’s style settings.
The video of a draft, private or password protected post is only shown to people who can see that post. Featured video has to be turned on for the post type in the plugin settings.
👉️ How to use Shortcodes
There are also shortcodes to embed featured video at any post, page or product you want.
[rsfv] shortcode is for displaying set featured video of the individual post anywhere in the post.
[rsfv_by_postid] shortcode is for displaying featured video of any post anywhere you want, you just need to pass a vaild post id to it e.g. [rsfv_by_postid post_id=”281″]
Both shortcodes accept these optional attributes to change the player for that shortcode only: controls, autoplay, loop, mute, pip, download (1 or 0) and hover (on or off). e.g. [rsfv autoplay=”1″ mute=”1″ hover=”off”]

Privacy
Analytics stores anonymous view and play totals in your own database. It does not set a cookie, does not store IP addresses or user ids, and does not send counts to JetixWP. Free keeps 14 days of those totals. A browser tab may remember, in sessionStorage, which video was already counted during that visit.
Video Studio runs entirely in your browser and your site. Templates, fonts and scripts are bundled with the plugin and nothing is loaded from or sent to outside servers.

No. Updating the plugin does not change any post or template. Add the block yourself where you want it, or keep using the featured image spot, shortcodes or your builder as before.
No. Featured videos still show where your theme shows the featured image. The block is for when you want to place a video somewhere else, such as a Site Editor template, a Query Loop or inside a post, or show the video of a different post.
Yes. Add the block, choose “Another post” and pick a post, page or product that has a featured video. The shortcode [rsfv_by_postid post_id=”281″] does the same. The video is only shown to people who are allowed to see that post.
Yes. Open Video Tools and use the Bulk upload tab. You can add files or embed links by hand, or import a CSV or TXT file. Each row needs a post. A row without a post is discarded, and its file is not uploaded.
No. Templates are played and recorded into a video file by your own browser, then uploaded to your own Media Library. Nothing is sent anywhere else.
Safari doesn’t let a web page read back the picture Video Studio draws, so it can’t record the video. You can still pick a template and preview it. Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox to make the video.
A view is a player actually on screen. A play is someone starting the video. Hover preview does not count. Counts stay in your own database. See the Privacy section.
